Occiflex™
Until now, the treatment of cervical pain and headache has been mainly invasive or pharmacological.
Occiflex ™ introduces a non-invasive alternative that has no side effects, is safe, easy to apply for the professional, very comfortable for both the patient and the therapist and above all very effective!
Mobilization as a method of treatment is known worldwide. However, traditional mobilization maximizes the range of motion in just a few repetitions.
Recent research has shown that mobilization for an extended period of time (15 – 20min) at a very low speed (0.1 – 2.5 ° / sec) is much more effective. The improvement mechanism is related to awareness instead of a simple mechanical result.
With Occiflex™ it is possible to simulate the real movements of a patient with 6 degrees of freedom (3 axes of rotation and 3 straight directions), for a longer period of time, safely and accurately.
Phase 1: Kinetic pattern analysis
The patient is placed in the “head movement sensor” which allows the position to be measured with great accuracy. The therapist evaluates the axial movement such as flexion – extension, rotation and lateral flexion and defines the movement trajectory for mobilization. As the head moves, each movement is recorded in any direction along each trajectory. This kinetic pattern can then be used for continuous mobilization, with virtually no restriction on movement.
Phase 2: Treatment
The patient is placed on Occiflex and the treatment protocol is selected. Based on the data of the kinetic pattern analysis (1st phase), a period of repetitive movements is set, where the speed and range of motion can vary. Once treatment begins, the patient is gently mobilized according to the kinetic pattern for an extended period. As the mobilization speeds are usually slow (0.1-2.5 ° / sec), the repetition phase is extremely relaxed. Thanks to the accuracy of the simulation, the sensitization effect is maximal The results will appear in a short time, while the pain and stiffness are reduced in a few sessions!
Characteristics
The Occiflex™ offers a comfortable and effective therapy modality for:
Pain reduction
The Occiflex is very effective for pain management of cervical related problems. This includes:
- Pain related to post-whiplash conditions
- Pain of mechanical origin. It can be associated with cervical radiculopathy and myelopathy or it can occur in isolation
- Idiopathic pain
- Cervicogenic headaches
Increased range of motion
- A limited ROM can be caused by noumerous structures in the cervical region.
- A limited ROM is impairing and often associated with cervical blocks.
- As these blocks are existing over a long period of time the impact on the life of the patient severe. The Occiflex is extremely effective when it comes to healing of longlasting cervical limitations.
Reduced disability
- Several conditions that are responsible for a reduced disablity related to the neck, including posture, proprioception and muscles & joints function can be effectively treated with the Occiflex.
